Subject: Carroll family
I am seeking information on the Carroll family which was living in Ouachita Parish in the 1830-1870 period. Thomas Carroll was in the 1830 and 1840 census as well as other parish records of the 1830s and 1840s. The 1850 Ward 9 census showed Esther Carroll, believed to be his wife, as head of the household. She is listed as Sarah in the 1860 census. The children in her household are William (m. Catherine Beson), Melinda (m. Wiley Griffin Long), and John (m. Frances unknown).
John and Frances' children were Albert, James, Emily, Oscar and John. Frances married J.F. Thomas following the death of her first husband John (Co. K, 31st LA Infantry) at the seige of Vicksburg.
Albert and James were in Union Parish in the 1870s and married Graves sisters. Emily married Joel Richard Hendrix and stayed in Ouachita Parish. I can find no information on Oscar or John. It is presumed that they died as children or young men.
Thanks for any assistance. Robert Carroll - York, PA (formerly of West Monroe, LA)

Subject: BURKETT Family
I am looking for any information on the family of Daniel Burkett.  He was listed on the 1820 Census as being in Ouachita Parish and I found a marriage for a Daniel Burkett and Mary Kirkland in Nov, 1830 there in the parish.  I believe that this Daniel was the son of the elder Daniel Burkett who was listed on the 1820 Census.  My gr-gr-gr grandfather, Levi Burkett was also the son of Daniel listed on the 1820 Census.  I would appreciate any information on this family and also would like to know if there were Choctaw or Chickasaw Indian tribes in this area during that time frame.  Levi married a "Nancy" born in 1815 in Mississippi and I believe that she was Native American and a member of the Choctaw tribe...I am just trying to determine how Nancy left Mississippi and met Levi.  Thanks! I just saw an old listing about Prestridge/Brumfile which you posted.  Eunice C. Brumfield was my husband's uncle.  He married Lida Prestridge and I would like to know if you have any info on them? PollyB

I am trying to locate Cleo Brumfield Haley who married  John Alexander Douglas.  Cleo Haley had a daughter, Linda Ileene and I believe that Linda who married ? ?Thibodeaux, may still be in the area. I hope that someone can help me find this "lost" relative of my husband's family.
thanks.

I am looking for Cleo Frances Brumfield Haley Douglas, sister of Malcolm Stokes, dtr. of Eunice Cleland Brumfield and Lida Prestridge and finally,  mother of Linda Ileene Haley who married ? Thibodeau.

I don't know if Cleo is still living, but I have found that her second husband, John Alexander Douglas is deceased.  She is/was a relative of my husband's and we have lost her whereabouts. Last known residence was in West Monroe or nearby vicinity.

I hope that someone will be able to help me in my search. Thank you very much for your assistance.

I certainly hope that you can help me solve a mystery. My grandfather was Calvin Gullette b1886 d1957. His father was George Gullette who married Eliza Charrier, although I have been unable to find a record of their marriage. Grandpa also had a sister, Viola Ruth. Family stories have been told about another sister that married a Solomon (sp?) and they owned a grocery store in Monroe, La., Ouachita Parish. My Aunt Viola once told me that this sister was raped and murdered, along with her husband, early in their marriage. I have searched newspaper articles available online, but have found nothing. I would love to know what her name was, date of birth and death for my files. Thank you in advance for any information you might have. Patricia

Subject: Scarbrough family
My husband is an identical twin and he and his brother were abandoned by their birth mother when they were less than three months old. This took place in  Monroe, La.in 1931. Their biological mother's name is May Scarbrough and the few records we have indicate that she was in Bosco, La. prior to going to Monroe where she gave birth to the twins. May was about 19 years old and not married. The father is not known, though records claim he was an oil field worker. May was given a home at a boarding house on Mississippi Street, and worked there until the babies were born. Being a young girl she was ill equipped for motherhood. She soon abandoned the babies and was later found by the authorities in Ferriday, Miss. No charges were ever pressed agains  t her  since she had been arranging to place the babies for adoption at the time.

My husband and his brother were adopted by a wonderful family in Louisiana and had a good life. They do, however still have a very natural curiousity about their biological mother and father. If there is any information you can provide on  a Scarbrough family in Bosco or the surrounding area, it would be greatly appreciated.

My phone number is: 949-600-5957. My mailing address is: 27741 Via Rivas,  Mission Viejo, California  92692
The babies birth names were: Lavelle and Laverne Scarbrough, and were born May27, 1931
Their adopted names became: Frank and Fred Braneff

Subject: Looking for Ernest Carson, Sr.
Ernest Carson, Sr. died around 1929 in his early 20's  in a "train accident" I believe in Bastrop or Oak Ridge.  Was married to a Pearl Pegross from Shreveport, had 4 children, Ernest Carson, Jr. of Oak Ridge, LA, Beulah Carson Dangerfield and Will Everett Carson, Ed Carson.  I can't find any information on where Ernest Carson Sr. was from, but either your Parish or Morehouse Parish.  Any help would be extremely appreciated.

You have a very nice website. I came across it in my search for a lost family line. I am looking for any living descendants of a George E. Hamilton(b.1874) and his wife Rosetta Hunt. We share a common ancestor and through extensive research we have located all branches of our family except for this one. George and Rosetta left Mineral Wells Texas and no record of where they went has been previously found. That is until now. I believe that a Seth W Hamilton(b.1907) that passed away in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana in 2001 was the son of George Hamilton. I came across a Gedcom file on the LDS website that stated that he was. There was no information on a spouse or children. If there is any of the Hamilton family from this line residing in Ouachita Parish I would like to connect with them. Perhaps you could recommend some resources. Whether or not you can be of any assistance to me I appreciate you taking the time to read this e-mail. God Bless.... Joe Hamilton (Stark County Illinois)

Subject: looking for information on Dr William wyatt barnes - farmerville LA- late 1800's
I am looking for info on ancestor Dr. Wm Wyatt Barnes - he is as far back as I can find on the Barnes family tree. I think at one time he lived near Indian Village which I have seen mentioned several time in the queires so I thought it must be in Ouachita Parrish. I have found him mentioned in several newspaper articles of the time(late 1800's), including being the attending dr trying to save a girl who poisioned herself. He was married to Sue Lee, daughter of Rev Starling C. Lee. I have no info of any of his parents, "sibs", etc.  I know he lived in downtown Farmerville/Union Parrish. Would appreciate any info. thanks.
